by Tord Boontje, 2009
Tord Boontje is known for his expression of romanticism in contemporary design. Some of his designs are whimsical and light-hearted; at the same time they can connect with strong emotions. Originally from the Netherlands, Boontje’s education at the Eindhoven Design Academy and the Royal College of Art in London set the foundations for Studio Tord Boontje. Established in 1996, the studio has worked with international companies on a range of products that includes lighting, graphic identity, textiles, ceramics, site-specific installations, and furniture. Work can be found in major museum collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and MoMA in New York. From it’s space in Shoreditch, the studio conceives, creates and launches new collections. This independent and creative method of working serves and inspires existing relationships and initiates new ones.
